Major rehabilitation to a 7 span girder bridge over the Connecticut River including deck replacement and substructure repairs. The existing substandard rocker bearings were replaced with seismic isolator bearings to meet current AASHTO seismic requirements while retaining the existing foundations and piers. Sidewalks were added to the bridge and the copings upgraded to current safety standards. Staged construction was also included in the design to keep the bridge open to traffic throughout construction. The project also included asbestos abatement, deleading, environmental
protection/containment for lead paint removal and overcoating. Bayside’s
scope of services included environmental permitting and design for the
paint deleading and overcoating systems. Shop drawing review and structural
analysis of the lead paint removal and containment system was also completed
by Bayside. Complete lead paint containment and environmental protection
was a critical element of this project due to an endangered species fish
run through this portion of the Connecticut River and all paint deleading,
containment and overcoating work was successfully completed in conformance
with all applicable requirements. Refer to Projects
for additional designs completed by Bayside Engineering, Inc.
