Bayside Engineering Client Awarded $725,000 MassWorks Grant to Repair Town Bridge

In an effort to correct ineffective bridge barriers, deteriorating sidewalks and an aging drainage system, Bayside Engineering was retained by the Town of Shirley to prepare design plans for repairs and improvements to the Main Street Bridge over Catacunemaug Brook.

The bridge and roadway design included wall and sidewalk improvements to one side of the bridge and a wheelchair ramp with crosswalk and new bridge railings to the other.

The improvements are a safety upgrade to this vital link to the Town’s village district for vehicular, pedestrian and cyclist commuters traveling to and from the residential neighborhoods located to the west and the MBTA commuter rail station located 0.4 miles to the east.

As part of the project, Bayside also provided grant writing assistance to secure $725,000 in construction funding through the MassWorks Grant Program.

The MassWorks Grant Program, administered by the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, in cooperation with the Department of Transportation and Executive Office for Administration and Finance, supports growth opportunities that contribute to the long term strength and sustainability of the Commonwealth.

“We are pleased that the Town of Shirley was awarded construction funds to move this project forward,” says Brian Sullivan, Bayside’s Project Manager. “The bridge is a critical connector for the community. These improvements will greatly improve safe passage across the bridge for all users.”

The Main Street Bridge project will go out to bid in February of 2017 with construction anticipated to begin in the spring. Bayside will provide construction administration services to oversee the project to completion.
