Civil Engineering

Since 1967, Bayside's civil engineers have been engaged in planning site designs, parking facility designs, urban renewal, land development, recreational facilities, drainage designs, development of port/marine facilities, sanitary facilities, utility relocations and environmental engineering.  An introduction to our Civil Engineering experience and capabilities is provided below, refer Projects for a description recent designs.

Site Development
Bayside’s civil engineering services include the ability to analyze existing and proposed site facilities and prepare utilization and feasibility studies for short-term and long-term development and expansion. Bayside's engineering services have included all phases of development and planning including new development, renovation, expansion alternatives, traffic analysis and signalization design, stormwater management, environmental permits, building permits, parking, handicap accessibility, solid waste and recycling, sound mitigation and budgeting. Bayside Engineering has prepared numerous site development, planning studies and designs including alternatives, plans, building cost estimates and phasing.

Bayside's experience in site design encompasses a wide range of engineering services: survey and field work, environmental site assessment, sanitary system design, wetlands filing, traffic analysis, site layout, site grading, drainage design, site utility layouts, as well as design of retention ponds, retaining walls and landscaping elements.

Handicap Accessibility
Bayside is committed to the design of fully functional buildings and sites that both reflect and encourage high quality performance.  In line with this commitment is our work in the design of handicapped accessible elevators, lavatories, ramps and pedestrian bridges.

Environmental Permits
Environmental permitting experience includes, but is not limited to, Wetlands (WPA, Ch. 131), MEPA, NEPA, 401 Water Quality Certification, NPDES, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE, 10, 103 and 404), Waterways (Ch. 91), Coastal Zone Management (CZM), U. S. Coast Guard, Historic, Fisheries, Wildlife, Endangered Species and Hazardous Materials Assessment (MCP/21E).  Bayside Engineering has also prepared EIS/EIR documents for the Massachusetts Highway Department.  Bayside has conducted studies that have included supervision of field tests and preparation of remedial procedures for removal of hazardous materials such as lead, asbestos, PCB's, volatile organic compounds and other pollutants encountered in underground tank replacements and other civil/site construction projects.  Bayside also has several active local Conservation Commission Members and Officers.

Building Permits
Bayside is involved in all phases of permitting for our Clients.  Building Permits obtained for civil engineering and site development projects include: underground tank replacement and increased storage permits, wetland permits (from local Conservation Commissions & DEP.), on-site sanitary sewer system permits, MHD curb cut permits, self-serve permits and special permits from various City, Town, and State agencies.  Permitting has included representation of our Client before Planning Boards, Zoning Boards, Boards of Selectmen and City or Town Councils.  Zoning by-laws have also become increasingly more restrictive and technical in nature.  For this reason, Bayside initiates all site development work with an in depth analysis of layouts that may reduce the variances/permits required, thereby improving the chances for project approval.

Recreational Facilities
Bayside has designed projects ranging from local neighborhood parks with playground apparatus and ball fields to 18 hole golf courses to multi-million dollar indoor/outdoor sports facility for Metropolitan District Commission. Our work on the Metropolitan Schoolboy Area included design services for the construction of an indoor/outdoor all sport facility with areas for basketball, tennis, badminton, volleyball, hockey, boxing, handball, and strengthening area. The arena contains seating for 4,800 people.  In addition Bayside designed a full quarter mile, all weather track, boat launch facilities, beach and fishing sites, passive recreation area and bicycle paths.

Drainage Engineering
Bayside Engineering, Inc. has designed all types of drainage projects ranging from pumping stations and water treatment plants to storm drainage systems have included various types of flood control, retention and water quality treatment structures.
