The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) announced the projects financed through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) loan program. A joint federal-state financing program, subsidized interest rate loans are provided to protecting public health by improving water supply, infrastructure systems, and protecting drinking water in the Commonwealth.

Hadley, like other towns and cities with aging and antiquated infrastructure, realized the need for a new water system design. Hired by the Town, Woburn’s Bayside Engineering prepared a water system design upgrade and submitted the DWSRF application to obtain a subsidized loan.

As a result, The Town of Hadley received a $379,000 low interest loan from the state.

“We are pleased to leverage our grant writing expertise to help towns and cities such as Hadley bring additional value to their projects,” says Senior Environmental Engineer, Brian Sullivan of Bayside Engineering.

The funds will be used to repair close to 2,800 feet of pipes along Route 9 in the historic district. This will ensure the availability of fresh, clean drinking water in Hadley.

“This money is going to help us go a long way to replacing old aging water pipes that need to be replaced,” superintendent of the Department of Public Works, Michael Klimoski stated in The Republican.

The water project is scheduled to begin in June.
