Construction Continues on the Gallagher Intermodal Pedestrian Bridge in Lowell

Teaming up with AECOM, Bayside provided the structural design of the truss bridge, bridge pier and footings. Bayside also provided construction oversight services as the Structural Engineer of Record.

The 140-foot walkway will provide tenants of the new Thorndike Exchange Development safe access to the transportation terminal. The bridge was fabricated in Maine in two 70-foot, 25 ton pieces and then transported to the site and erected in place.

The new Thorndike Exchange will consist of two phases. Thorndike Exchange developer Sal Lupoli explained to the Lowell Sun, “Phase one is a renovation of the original brick mill building, which is one of the oldest mill buildings in Lowell. It will consist of 65 market-rate apartments, two restaurants, a wine bar, a cafe, a roof deck and about 30,000 square feet, in its entirety, of commercial new-job-creation space.”

Phase two will consist of an office building addition to the mill building.

Bayside was also the Structural Engineer for the recently completed modernization of the main lobby at the Gallagher Intermodal Transportation Center.  Learn more about this project.
